“Set to the backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ continues the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage.”

    —IMDB

One word: amazing! Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 does not disappoint. The film looks at the characters allowing for character growth while also establishing a family unit for the characters. The movie goes back to trace back the origins of Peter/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt). But there’s more to this film than just that. It had heart and focuses on the Guardians not just as a group of heroes or friends, but as a family. And that’s one of the things that makes this film so good because everyone focuses on the characters and their dynamics with one another. They care about each other, they fight with one another and for one another. They are a strong unit and the cast and crew make sure that that resonates off the screen.

Star Trek Has Found Its Way Back | Review of Star Trek Beyond

“The USS Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a new ruthless enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.”

—IMDB

This movie made me so happy. After Into Darkness I was apprehensive about the Star Trek franchise because Into Darkness lost its way in trying to appeal to both Trekkies and the mass market. It tried too hard to be one classic (The Wrath of Khan) that it ended up being another classic (The Undiscovered Country) but with less of the heart that would have appealed to Star Trek fans because it just missed the mark, it missed the intent of Gene Roddenberry‘s work. Moreover, with this film, when I heard that they were doing reshoots after it initially wrapped up, which usually almost always spells out doom for a movie. However, you wouldn’t know it watching this film, because whatever they had to go and fix, they nailed it, and they brought back what Gene Roddenberry intended, they brought back hope, they brought back peace, and unity, and everything else that Gene Roddenberry intended when he first created Star Trek.

Flash Film Review: ‘John Wick’, ‘Nightcrawler’ & ‘Book of Life

Okay so I bet you’re wondering what is going on here.  Well I have fallen way behind in my writing.  I sort of got into a funk with a lot of everything.  I’m still trying to figure out the cover design for my next novel and I’m editing it as well and I’m reading and writing but then I want to be lazy and play Kingdom Hearts.  So I’m just trying to get myself out of this funk that I’m in, so here we are! Guardians Of The Galaxy Adds Glenn Close

By:  Eric Eisenberg

Guardians_of_the_Galaxy_37797Yet another massively talented, award-winning actor has made a deal to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Deadline is now reporting that Glenn Close, who has been nominated for an Academy Award six times, is the latest performer to join the cast of James Gunn’s slowly-growing Guardians of the Galaxy. Calling the part “a major role,” the website says that she will be playing a leadership role (similar to Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury) in the intergalactic police organization known as the Nova Corps – which also seems to confirm that the film will indeed include the Nova Corps. Story details are being kept to a minimum right now – as is the case with all Marvel movies in their infancy – but Gunn handled screenwriting duties and production is gearing up to start next month.

Close is just the latest to join the cast of the space-set sci-fi adventure, which over the past few months has added Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax The Destroyer, and Michael Rooker as Yondu. The new story also seems to confirm recent reports saying that both Lee Pace and John C. Reilly have joined the project, but doesn’t go into any specifics about their roles (the former was rumored to be playing the villain).

Close was last on the big screen in 2011’s Albert Nobbs – a performance that got her that sixth Oscar nod – and she’s been busy on the small screen starring on FX’s Damages. She most recently completed production on director Jeff Preiss’ new indie film Low Down and recently started working on Five To Seven with Anton Yelchin.

Star Trek: Into Darkness

StarTrekIntoDarkness_FinalUSPosterDirected By: J. J. Abrams

Written By: Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman & Damon Lindelof

Based on: Star Trek by Gene Roddenberry

Starring: John Cho, Benedict Cumberbatch, Alive Eve, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Peter Weller & Anton Yelchin

Captain James T. Kirk has been reprimanded along with his First Commander, Spock for violating the Prime Directive.  But after an attack on Star Command , they are handed back the U.S.S. Enterprise on a mission of revenge that turns into something more, costing a life and revealing the true villain.

EPIC! Easily the best movie of this summer!  This movie had everything that makes Star Trek what it is.  The opening sequence itself was brilliantly done with the introduction and chemistry between the team that makes this movie oh so very great.  Further established within this movie the brotherhood between Spock and Kirk as well as Kirk’s notorious arrogance that makes his character just so very charming.  Chris Pine, you are a great Captain Kirk.  As a Trekkie myself I have great appreciation for what the writers and J. J. Abrams have done with this second movie.  Although there were some discrepancies that don’t coincide with the Original Television Series, like the Tribbles and the fact that the villain, okay gonna say it, Khan, was in hibernation for 300 years, when he really should have only been in hibernation with his crew for 150 years, personally I can overlook those.

But any true Star Trek fan will love this movie because it doesn’t overwrite what has been established, like Khan’s past, it changes it a little, but it keeps it within the realm of the Star Trek Universe.  There are so many allusions to other Star Trek Films starring the OTS cast.  It’s an action packed adventure with amazing special effects.  The acting and chemistry between the characters and the actors is still amazing.  The introduction of Khan as the villain, but ultimately not the only true villain was great.  The Tribble, I’m grateful was only one and used in such a miniscule way.

This movie was just done so well and the writing behind it was the main reason.  They were able to tap into the memorable stories that all Trekkies should know and love.  It also is not a reboot, it does not undo Wrath of Khan, but it does give a different origin to their first encounter and the ending was great with the narration that starts off each episode of the OTS.  It’s amazing!  This movie has great acting, a solid and well done plot line, and amazing special effects!  I am certainly going to see it again…and again…and maybe a third time.  Best movie to come out so far this summer!  ★★★★ (A+)

Guardians Of The Galaxy To Add Zoe Saldana As Gamora

By:  Katey Rich

zoe_saldana_36754

Another key element of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy has fallen into place, and it’s the addition of an actress who already knows her way around outer space. The Hollywood Reportersays that Zoe Saldana is currently in negotiations to play Gamora, the green-skinned humanoid alien who is the female lead of the upcoming superhero film.

Saldana, who’s returning to play Uhura in Star Trek Into Darkness and is on board for theAvatar sequels, would be joining the cast that already includes Chris Pratt as Star-Lord andDave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer. James Gunn is on board to direct, and the production ought to be gearing up quickly in time to make the planned August 1, 2014 release date.

We got a look at some concept art from Guardians of the Galaxy earlier today thanks to the Marvel Phase One Blu-ray set, but our best look at Gamora remains in the concept art that debuted last summer, showing her on the far right wearing a cape and holding a sword. It will be interesting to see how they have Saldana play the role, whether through motion-capture and prosthetics, and if it winds up looking too similar to her Neytiri in Avatar. It also seems strange that Saldana is potentially signing up for a third sci-fi franchise, not to mention the gigantic Marvel universe that could rope her in for any number of stories. All she needs is a role in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars to be living the true geek dream.

Star Trek Into Darkness Delivers A New Inside Look

By:  Eric Eisenberg

This Sunday we will be getting a brand new look at J.J. Abrams‘ upcoming blockbuster Star Trek Into Darkness. Paramount has announced that the new sci-fi adventure will be one of the titles getting a big game spot during this year’s Super Bowl…but that’s pretty much all we know. We have no idea what we’ll be seeing in terms of footage, and it’s entirely possible that the notoriously secretive filmmaker could surprise fans with some sort of reveal. We won’t have any answers until this weekend, but to make the wait less painful we at least have this behind the scenes featurette.

The Esurance Facebook Page has launched a new Star Trek Into Darkness widget that provides all kinds of goodies for fans looking forward to the sequel, including a new preview featuring the likes of Abrams and stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana. Most of the footage shown in the clip is taken from the previously released trailer, but unless I’m mistaken there are some new shots inserted as well. Check it out!

But that’s not all that the Esurance page has to offer Trekkies. Heading over to their site you will have a chance to enter a sweepstakes to win tickets to the film’s U.S, premiere (including $2,500 in travel expenses); a “Vulcanizer” that allows you to upload photos and make yourself look like Spock; and walpaper, icon and poster downloads.

Will The Star Trek Sequel Be Titled Star Trek Into Darkness?

By: : Eric Eisenberg

star_trek_2_32850One of the most anticipated movies of next year may have found its title. After months of referring to J.J. Abrams’ next film The Untitled Star Trek Sequel, it seems as though the official name of the project has been revealed and it is: Star Trek Into Darkness.

The news of the new title comes from a source over at Coming Soon. While they haven’t been able to officially confirm the information with Paramount Pictures, the studio behind the project, the site points out that both www.startrekintodarkness.com and www.startrekintodarknessmovie were recently registered on the site Markmonitor, which Paramount also used when they purchased domain names for G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

Part of the reason why it’s interesting that this news drops today is because tomorrow is the 46th anniversary of Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek (and there’s even a Google Doodle to celebrate it). Quotes from Zachery Quinto about the project also surfaced online today, the actor calling the new film bigger and bolder than Abrams’ reboot (you can read all of his commentshere).

Star Trek Into Darkness (if that’s what it ends up being called) will feature returning stars Quinto, Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, and Anton Yelchin and feature newcomers such as Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve, Peter Weller and Noel Clarke. Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Damon Lindelof wrote the script and the movie will be in theaters on May 17, 2013.

Spock Borrows Some Of Iron Man’s Armor In New Star Trek Sequel Set Photo

If you’ve been following the news today you know that the Joss Whedon-directed The Avengers looks like it will be opening huge. Armed with ridiculous awareness statistics, the movie has a very real chance at beating the opening weekend numbers of The Hunger Games, which, you might remember, currently holds the number three spot for all time opening weekend numbers. Much like how the success of The Dark Knight made people start thinking that dark and gritty is the way to go for all big action movies, perhaps now we can expect some big movies to try and imitate The Avengers style. Like sticking Spock in an Iron Man costume.

A new photo from the set of the untitled Star Trek sequel has arrived online and features Zachary Quinto looking a whole lot like Tony Stark. All jokes aside, the armor actually does look fairly similar to the equipment that Kirk (Chris Pine) and Sulu (John Cho) used to skydive towards the drill on Vulcan in the first film. You can see the new image below and head over to MTV to see it full size.

Directed by J.J. Abrams, the Star Trek sequel brings back the cast from the 2009 reboot, including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, John Cho, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin and Bruce Greenwood. Newcomers to the film series include Benedict Cumberbatch – who will be playing the central villain – Alice Eve and Peter Weller. The script was written by Robert Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof and the final product will be in theaters on May 17, 2013.
