“Set to the backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ continues the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage.”

    —IMDB

One word: amazing! Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 does not disappoint. The film looks at the characters allowing for character growth while also establishing a family unit for the characters. The movie goes back to trace back the origins of Peter/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt). But there’s more to this film than just that. It had heart and focuses on the Guardians not just as a group of heroes or friends, but as a family. And that’s one of the things that makes this film so good because everyone focuses on the characters and their dynamics with one another. They care about each other, they fight with one another and for one another. They are a strong unit and the cast and crew make sure that that resonates off the screen.

Adonis Creed wants to make a name for himself. Quitting his job, he leaves Hollywood, CA and travels to Philadelphia in the hopes of tracking down Rocky, hoping he will train in. Drawn in by Adonis’ determination and strength the two team up, train, and face off against a champion who has nothing left to lose.

Starring Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan, Creed is the film that rightfully closes the door on the legacy (if that’s even possible) while it passes on the torch for future generations.

A Macho Film That’s Not At Its Finest | Review of ‘The Expendables 3’

By: Cynthia Ayala

The third installment in the Expendables film franchise has an amazing cast full of iconic actions stars, but fails to impress with its rehash of a story that has already been told.

Escape Plan | Movie Review

By: Cynthia A.

image Directed By: Mikael Håfström

Screenplay By: Miles Chapman & Jason Keller

Story By: Miles Chapman

Starring: Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jim Caviezel, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Vinnie Jones, Sam Niell, Vincent D’Onofrio & Amy Ryan

Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger are back again for another action packed and thrilling adventure.  Rambo and the Terminator have teamed up yet again to break out of Prison.  Stallone stars as Ray Breslin, an ex-prosecutor who has made it his life’s ambition to make sure that all prisons are breakout proof.  Then he finds himself betrayed by his employer and sent to a high tech facility off the grid built by his own designs.  And as the game of cat and mouse ensues, he finds himself trapped by his own design.

Before I get into the movie I would just like to state that I did not recognize 50 Cent at all.  He surprised me and when I realized that it was him I was blown away by his performance.  It was executed wonderfully and his character was just well written.  The glasses, that always works to hide who someone is, always works every time.

Now, onto the movie.  Many people often wonder why Stallone and Schwarzenegger are still in the action business.  It’s because they still have it.  The pair of them have made that their niche and let’s face it, they both are in great shape to continue doing what they are doing.  Moreover, this wasn’t just an action movie just for the sake of having an action movie.  It had a story that had depth.  This was a survival story, a story about the rights of man and the abuse of power and funds.  That gave it so much.  So pretty much, it was a story about freedom.  As cliché as that may sound or be, it is what it is.

This movie had me at the edge of my seat.  Stallone and Schwarzenegger are trying to escape a quite possible inescapable prison.  You’re rooting for them as they fight their way out back to their families.  It was a rush.  Every time you think Stallone is going to be caught, every time you think he’s going to die or break, you’re just so relieved that he isn’t.  The writing for this movie was great and the execution of it with plot twist after plot twist was great.

Now, onto the acting.  Jim Caviezel was a brilliant evil genius.  The facial expressions, the slight smirk to the look in his eyes when he was plotting something was captivating.  You knew he was evil, you knew he was up to something diabolical.  His body language as well was subtle; the little actions he did highlighted his god complex.  That right there was brilliant direction coupled with brilliant action.  This movie was more than just an action movie; it was a thrill ride and showed us once again that Schwarzenegger and Stallone still got the stuff.  Schwarzenegger was hilarious and scary and well, as always, awesome.

My only problem was there was a little too much swearing for my taste.  Some of it was placed in the dialogue very well, but most of it was superfluous.  Unnecessary addition to an otherwise well written movie.

Catch it before it’s gone folks.  ★★★☆ (B)

Nicolas Cage, Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes And Milla Jovovich In Talks For Expendables 3

By: Eric Eisenberg

image The Expendables franchise is all about getting bigger and bigger with each installment. When the first film came out in 2010 he brought together amazing action stars like Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Dolph Lundgren, Jason Statham and more, but they upped the ante in 2012 with Expendables 2 , which also added Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, and Scott Adkins into the mix. So where do you go from there? The answer is to add Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, Nicolas Cage and Milla Jovovich.

According to Deadline , Lionsgate is now in active negotiations with all four stars to join the cast of The Expendables 3 . While Chan, Snipes and Cage have all been rumored for possible roles in the film for months, this is actually the first time that we’ve heard about Jovovich’s possible involvement. She would be the second actress to join the gang of killer mercenaries after Chinese actress Nan Yu starred in the second film.

As we reported in late April, Stallone has hired Red Hill director Patrick Hughes to direct the project and Stallone is currently working on the script himself. All four actors have plenty of action genre cred that should help the four new stars fit in quite well with the rest of the ensemble cast. The question that remains, however, is how the four characters will be used. I’d personally want to see Chan, Snipes and Jovovich join up with the good guys and then cast Cage as a ridiculously over-the-top bad guy with plans for world domination. But what do you think?

Sylvester Stallone Seeking ‘Young Sigourney Weaver’ For Expendables 3

By:  Kristy Puchko

If you follow Sylvester Stallone on Twitter, you notice one recurring theme to his tweets:Expendables 3. Sly knows where his bread is currently buttered and so has been tantalizing fans with little updates like “Calling SEAGAL.” And while Steven Seagal is a no-brainer addition to the next Expendables adventure, the tweet below has us much more intrigued.

A young Sigorney Weaver anywhere out there?
— Sylvester Stallone (@TheSlyStallone) May 18, 2013

The Expendables movies have brought together some of the best action heroes past and present to rumble in a franchise overstuffed with muscle and testosterone. But the success of the films is inspiring dueling spin-offs that will essentially be a woman version (one actually called—ugh—Expendabelles). To date, Nicolas CageJackie Chan and Wesley Snipes have been considered as additions to the beefed up ensemble of Expendables 3, but could the tweet above mean Sly is bringing some female star power into the mix?

As I see it, the tweet above can be read two ways. First: Sigourney Weaver is a badass action heroine; we need someone like her but younger (read: hotter) for this male-audience-driven franchise. Or two: Sigourney is on board and we need someone who can encapsulate her unique blend of strength and smarts to play a younger version of her character for flashback purposes (or something.) I’m hoping it’s the latter because with appearances in Cabin in the Woods and Paul, Weaver has shown she is still a force to be reckoned with, not one to be cavalierly replaced. Though it may be a bad sign that Sly misspelled her name.

But who would be considered a young Sigourney? While this summer has seen the emergence of several exciting action heroines, that’s not an easy question. Weaver defined resilience and courage in the Aliens movies, and her performance as Ripley is as iconic as John McClane, Rambo or the Terminator. The more I think about it, the more I hope Sly realizes there really is only one Sigourney Weaver, and casts accordingly.

Expendables 3 Still Going After Wesley Snipes And Jackie Chan

By:  Eric Eisenberg

The_Expendables_3_35312When it comes to the Expendables franchise the key word is escalation. With The Expendables 2 the muscled-up group of actors truly raised the bar with extended roles for Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis as well as parts for Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Scott Adkins. So with Expendables 3 they somehow have to push it even further and bring in more luminaries of the genre. And they continue to gun for the top guys.

Dolph Lundgren, who has played “hero” Gunnar Jensen i n both films, recently spoke with MovieWeb and revealed that the production is still looking to pack its cast with more big action star names, and that there’s three in particular whose names keep floating to the top. “I don’t know anything for sure,” Lundgren told the site. “I have heard that they do want Wesley Snipes. They want Jackie Chan. Nicolas Cage, I have heard too. But we don’t know want is going on just yet.”

But while they’re still trying to figure out that angle of the production, apparently the project is only a few months away from cameras rolling, despite the fact the last movie only opened last August. While a script hasn’t been completed yet, Lundgren confirmed that it’s being written now and that they will likely start filming in the fall. But he added that he also isn’t running into the writer’s room constantly and making sure that they are doing justice by his character. Asked about his collaboration process with co-star and producer Sylvester Stallone – whose history goes all the way back to Rocky IV – Lundgren said,

“I let him go at it first. He kind of knows me creatively, and personally, because we’ve worked together quite a bit. So I will usually read the script, and then I will add a few comments about this or that. He knows all of the actors that are in the piece, and there are so many characters involved. They all want to be involved, and everyone wants to have a little something special to do. So, he tries to satisfy that. He’s done a great job so far. And I trust him. I usually add a few comments, and he is open to that. Yeah, if everything works out…All these other variables…Then I am not that worried about the script, really.”

The Expendables 3 doesn’t have an official release date yet, but is expected for summer 2014.

Jackie Chan Is Up For The Expendables 3

By:  Sean O’Connell

The_Expendables_3_34654We’re a little hesitant to jump on any Expendables casting announcements. After all, we’ve been burned before. (Yes, Nicolas Cage, we’re looking at you.) But the latest action icon claiming to be part of Sylvester Stallone’s announced sequel is going on record as saying he’s “in,” and his addition – if real – would makes sense (and be awesome).

Jackie Chan is busy promoting his latest film CZ12 in Kuala Lumpur. According to Cinema Online, Chan was asked about participating in the third Expendables — which Stallone has confirmed – and his affirmative answer might have survived the journalist who dared to ask:

Sly had invited me to be in Expendables 2 but I was too busy filmingCZ12 and couldn’t make a commitment to the film. But he did extend his invitation to the third movie, which I agreed on the condition that I will be appearing as more than just a minor role with a few scenes,” Chan said.

As the story goes, Chan had even more suggestions, saying that he’d prefer Stallone to make the third Expendables movie into more of a “buddy” template … to which Stallone reportedly agreed. Here’s where we start to grow a little skeptical. Would Stallone really make creative departures from his lucrative formula because Chan had suggested them? I mean, Chan’s an outstanding addition to the Expendables world, but it might have made more sense 15 years ago, when the high-kicking action star was in his prime.

Then again, the “aging action star” is the whole hook of The Expendables, so plugging Chan into the series in a meatier role sounds about right. It only took a few days before Stallone (or his people) refute the Cage rumors. So we’ll go with Chan in the third Expendables for now … and hope that it becomes a reality.

The Walking Dead’s Jon Bernthal Joins Stallone And De Niro In Grudge Match

By: Kelly West

Jon_Bernthal_34631Jon Bernthal’s run on AMC’s The Walking Dead may be over (for the most part, anyway), but the actor certainly isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. In addition to having a starring role in a new TV pilot in the works, he’s also set to appear in The Wolf on Wall Street and now he has another interesting role lined up, playing the son of Robert De Niro‘s character in Grudge Match.

Directed by Peter SegalGrudge Match stars De Niro and Sylvester Stallone as two retired fighters who get back into the ring together for one last match to settle an old score. The very idea of the Raging Bull star facing off in the ring against the Rocky star is brimming with potential. Of course, we’ll have to see what kind of shape both men are in when they step into the ring. Stallone certainly wasn’t looking so bad (understatement) in Expendables 2.

From the sound of it, Bernthal’s character will bring an additional dose of tension. Variety reports that the Walking Dead star has signed on to play De Niro’s son, “who is conflicted about training the estranged father he has resented for years.” He joins Kim Basinger among the cast, in addition to De Niro and Stallone.

Since his departure from The Walking Dead earlier this year, Bernthal has moved on to a role in Frank Darabont‘s TNT pilot L.A. Noir. He’s also set to appear in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, which is expected to arrive in theaters next year. And he’s credited for a part in Summit’s upcoming film Snitch.

Christian Slater Joins The Cast Of Lars Von Trier’s Nymphomaniac

By: Eric Eisenberg

christian_slater_32934Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac already has a stellar cast lined up that includes Shia LaBeouf, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgard, Jamie Bell and Connie Nielsen, but today he’s added another big name to the roster. Christian Slater has signed on for a part in the project, which is currently shooting in Cologne, Germany.

According to Variety the movie tells the story of a woman’s sexual life from her birth to age 50. The plot will unfold in eight chapters and will be told by a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac (hence the title) named Joe, played by Gainsbourg later in life and Stacy Martin when she is younger. While there are no details about how the actor will fit into the story, the trade says that Slater will be playing Joe’s father.

Slater recently starred in two seasons of the Fox series Breaking In (which was cancelled earlier this year) and has kept busy with a number of film roles. He will next be seen in Walter Hill’s Bullet To The Head with Sylvester Stallone, Sung Kang and Jason Momoa, but also completed Leone Marucci’s The Power of Few and is currently filming the horror sci-fi movie Stranded, which is being directed by Roger Christian.

Nymphomaniac began its production late last month and is currently in the midst of an 11-week long shooting schedule. It has been said that there will be two versions of the movie released and that one of the versions will contain possibly real onscreen sex. While the film does have some distributors secured overseas, there hasn’t been a taker in the US as of yet. It’s expected that the film will be released sometime in 2013.
